My Hero Academia Chapter 371 Recap
Despite Spinner’s mental state, the fight between him and Shoji continues. From around the corner, Koda hears Shoji’s angry voice. As it turns out, the villains saw the serious scars on Shoji’s bare face. The villains continue to praise and cheer for Spinner in the hopes that he will be able to reclaim Kurogiri and bring them justice. But still, Spinner is on a high from his new quirk, claiming that he has no idea what is going on, much to the surprise of his subordinates. To avoid chaos, the general of the Paranormal Liberation Front (PLF) speaks up to clarify Spinner’s statements. He says that Spinner has no idea how much they’ve suffered, and proceeds to order everyone to attack the hospital. In response, Shoji informs Spinner that the hospital attack will set their cause back 30 years, but Spinner tells him to shut up. While attempting to reorganize his thoughts, Spinner recalls the time when All For One bestowed upon him his new quirk—the Scale Armor. It grants Spinner raw strength, enhanced defense, and the appearance of a true leader. He also remembers Shigaraki telling him that he, too, used to play solo in League of Legends. Shoji attacks Spinner with all his might, only to have one of his arms severed when Spinner suddenly regains consciousness. Spinner yells and tells his subordinates to rush to the hospital while he sends Shoji flying with his attack. The PLF General seized this opportunity and encouraged everyone to follow in Spinner’s footsteps. He also mentions that the revolution necessitates martyrdom and that the bloodshed today will benefit the future of the heteromorphs. In a flashback, Koda recalls the time in the U.A. dorms when Shoji told everyone about his life story. Shoji claims that his parents did not have Octo-arms like him. He also came from a horrifying backwater village where pure blood is so important that people will tussle children to keep it pure. Furthermore, Shoji stated that others, such as Tokoyami, Koda, and all those born in cities, believe that such things are behind them. However, there are still a lot of bad places where people won’t even blink an eye at murdering children for the sake of purity. Ashido stated that the world would be a better place if such people did not exist, to which Shoji replied that prejudice would still exist either way. Mineta remembers how he had called Shoji an octopus and realized how wrong it was to discriminate against him. He also said that he did not consider him gross in any way. Shoji didn’t mind Mineta calling him names, for when people saw his arms, it was natural for them to think of an octopus. Indeed, Shoji’s hero’s name is Tentacole, so he is no longer bothered by it. Shoji also revealed why he has been wearing a mask all this time. The scars on his face, combined with the fact that he is a heteromorph, give the impression that he is out there seeking vengeance. In addition, Shoji tells everyone that he has a lot of painful memories, but rather than dwelling on them, he chooses to embrace the happy memory of that one time when he was happy to have his body. Suddenly, Ashido and the others rush up to Shoji and hug him. They also assured Shoji that from now on, they would all make happy memories. Back in the present, Shoji becomes determined to carry on the efforts of those who came before him and become the world’s coolest hero. Shoji leaps over Spinner and addresses the villains, claiming that he, too, has faced discrimination and that their oppressors will never have vindication. On the other hand, Shoji believes that there is another way out. Therefore, everyone should think carefully about how to channel their anger. In return, the PLF General responds to Shoji’s argument by claiming that if his ideologies were sufficient, they would not have gathered so many followers. Aside from not providing concrete alternatives, they are simply displaying their inflated egos. This implies that Shoji has already been domesticated by humans and has lost his fighting spirit as a heteromorph. While the PLF General mocks Shoji’s ideas, Koda attacks him from behind and warns him not to ridicule his friend. Before the chapter ends, Shoji clashes with Spinner, who accuses him of being disgusting, to which he responds that it’s just who he is.
