The comedy ensemble series stars Fresh Off the Boat’s Randall Park and Brooklyn Nine-Nine‘s Melissa Fumero, and it’s based on the real-life Blockbuster business company, the home movie and video game rental store that became internationally known throughout the 1990s and was a staple in various American cities. It was a famous spot to rent or buy DVDs, videogames and other media before Netflix and the world of streaming took over.
Randall Park plays Timmy Yoon, the manager of the last remaining Blockbuster video store in the U.S. Without corporate support to keep the business going, Timmy must work with his staff to remind their customers what’s special about renting a film rather than streaming one.Timmy also has a crush on co-worker and long-time friend Eliza (Melissa Fumero). If you’re wondering if Netflix will renew Blockbuster for a second season, check out everything we know so far about the possibility of Blockbuster Season 2 below.
Is Blockbuster Season 2 coming?
As of Blockbuster’s premiere on Nov. 3, Netflix hasn’t renewed the comedy series for Season 2. Some Netflix comedy shows have been renewed for multiple seasons before, but there’s no official confirmation from the streaming giant yet. But fans shouldn’t give up hope as Netflix hasn’t canceled the series either. Netflix usually announces a renewal for its original series in no less than a month after its premiere, but it could take up to a few months to determine the fate of the comedy series. It’s likely that Netflix will be looking closely at the viewership results and completion rate within the first month of Blockbuster’s release. Based on the finale of the first season, it looks like the story is far from over, so hopefully, we’ll see more of Timmy, Eliza, and the rest of the staff in the future.
