In the trailer of the docuseries, Harry & Meghan, the couple promised to deliver their own version of events from their side. This includes the story of how they met, courtship, engagement, wedding, having children, and their departure from the Royal family. As of this writing, the first three episodes have already been released on the streaming platform. The last three will be available on Thursday, December 15. For now, let’s answer one of the internet’s burning questions about the couple’s relationship: how did Harry & Meghan meet each other?
How Did Prince Harry & Meghan Markle Meet?
Back in July 2016, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle met through friends in London. From the first time they were introduced, the two were already smitten with each other. But they were set up on a blind date by a friend. In a post-engagement interview, Prince Harry said: “We were introduced actually by a mutual friend, we’ll protect her privacy. It was literally through her. Then we met once and twice back-to-back, two dates in London, last July. Beginning of July. Then, it was three maybe four weeks later that I managed to persuade her to join me in Botswana, and we camped out with each other under the stars.”
The Suits actress answered: “It was definitely a set up, it was a blind date.” The actress revealed that she knew nothing about the British royals at that time. Instead, she was only curious whether or not Prince Harry was nice. On the other hand, the Royal Prince said that he “never watched Suits” and that he “never heard of Meghan before.” A friend of the couple revealed to Royal reporter, Katie Nicholl, that the two “just clicked and got on from the very meet up. It was all very easy and natural from the start.”
Who Introduced Meghan to Prince Harry?
From the start, Prince Harry wanted to protect the identity of their matchmaker. And this launched a lot of speculation surrounding the identity of this mystery friend. People initially thought that the matchmaker was Misha Nonoo, who was a close friend of Meghan’s since her ex-husband, Alexander Gilkes, was a close friend of Harry’s. Nonoo, however, never addressed these rumors personally. In 2017, her rep said that she “will not be discussing anything surrounding her relationship with Meghan.”
A year later though, E! News was able to uncover who the mystery friend is. As it turns out, it was Violet von Westenholz, Prince Harry’s childhood friend, who introduced the two to each other. A source revealed that Prince Harry had trouble “finding anyone” since he couldn’t just hop on Tinder or another dating app. Instead, he confided this with his closest friends. And since von Westenholz knew Meghan from a Ralph Lauren project, she decided to introduce the two together. “When Harry told Violet he was having trouble finding someone, Violet said she might just have the perfect girl for him.” And that’s how Prince Harry met Meghan Markle.
