The premiere took place on Monday, September 19, in Tokyo, Japan. Along with the premiere, a special stage event featuring the anime’s main cast also happened, and it featured the reveal of the new trailer and other information.
Specifically, the announcements include the show’s opening theme, which is performed by Kenshi Yonezu, a Japanese singer who also performed one of the opening songs for My Hero Academia. Along with the opening, MAPPA also announced at the stage event that the Chainsaw Man anime will feature 12 ending songs, each of which will feature a unique ending animation. The ending songs feature a range of well-known Japanese artists and bands, including Eve, Aimer, Kanaria, and more. Many of the artists and groups that were chosen for the ending songs have also performed tracks for other popular anime. Also announced at the event were new members of the voice cast, including the VAs for Kishibe, Kobeni, Himeno, and Arai. Of these, Kishibe drew the most interest from fans as he is voiced by the same actor as Nanami Kento in Jujutsu Kaisen. Finally, a new trailer for the upcoming anime was released. Check it out here:
While only a limited number of people were able to attend the Chainsaw Man anime premiere, Crunchyroll’s Senior Japan Correspondent Daryl Harding was able to watch the first episode, and he shared his thoughts recently. According to Harding, the anime’s first episode is a faithful adaptation of the manga’s first chapter. He praised the CG animation of the fight scene involving Chainsaw Man, as well as the voice acting debut of Kikunosuke Toya as Denji. Also given praise was Pochita, with Harding saying that Pochita stole the show in the episode. He also remarked how fans of Makima will not be disappointed with the first episode. Aside from being treated to the first episode premiere, the event also featured a range of figures that were on display for fans to enjoy. A life-sized Chainsaw Man statue was also at the event.
